STUDYING CIVIL ENGINEERING IN NAGOYA UNIVERSITY

THE FOREFRONT STUDIES PROGRAM FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING
The “Forefront Studies Progrram for Civil Engineering” is a three-year post-graduate program leading towards a doctoral degree and started in 2007, replacing the “Civil Engineering Special Program” , implemented from 1987 to 2006. This new scholarship program provides a course especially designed for foreign students, in which course works and research supervision are all carried out in English. About seven students will be accepted for this program and those who will pass the selection process will be allowed to enter the doctoral program in October 2012 with a scholarship granted by the Japanese Government.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Download the application materials from the website of the Department of Civil Engineering, Nagoya University (www.civil.nagoya-u.ac.jp). In case you have problems with Internet access, send a letter or E-mail to the Foreign Student Office (FSO) requesting the materials.
Fill out the application forms. Send them back to the FSO together with the other required documents by the application deadline of December 25, 2010.
Each application shall be notified of the results of the preliminary selection by the Nagoya University by the beginning of March 2012. Notification of results of final selection by the Japanese Government will be made by the end of June 2012.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Accepted applicants are granted financial support (Monbu-kagaku-sho Scholarship) from the Japanese Government, which is sufficient to maintain a decent way of living in Japan. The following are provided to the students in a maximum of three years:
- Exemption from tuition frees
- A monthly stipend of about 156,000 yen
- An annual travel grant for field trips
- Air ticket from/to the Student’s country
